Location
Bute is an island in the Firth of Clyde. Rothesay, the main town on the island, has a good variety of shopping, leisure and educational facilities. Rothesay has an 18 hole golf course and there are smaller courses at Port Bannatyne and Kingarth. There is a frequent ferry service to Wemyss Bay on the mainland which has direct rail links to Glasgow. A second ferry service runs between Rhubodach on the northern end of Bute to Colintraive giving closer access to the mainland as well as Argyll and the West Highlands. The two nearest airports are Glasgow and Prestwick, which are approximately 40 and 50 minutes’ drive from Wemyss Bay.
